What is the benefit of booking with Apex? Why not arrange the holiday yourself?

When you book a package through Apex Expeditions it is 100% financially protected. As well as this, you will be joined by like-minded adventures and a local tour guide. Our itineraries have been designed to ensure that our guests have an epic experience and one that they will not forget! We know the secret spots, hidden gems, and the must-see highlights.

How do I get to the departure location?

If you are not sure on the best way to get to your holiday start location, get in touch with us and we will be more than happy to help you plan the best option.

What is included in my holiday package?

Each of our Tours has a detailed itinerary and information which explains what is included in each tour.

Is it possible to have a single room on a tour?

Yes, this is possible. Our tours are based on twin/double rooms. If individuals book a tour with us, we will pair them with someone of the same sex in a twin room. However, we can offer you the opportunity to pay a supplement to pre-book a single room or cover the cost of the double room. If there is not a single room option on the tour you wish to book, please get in touch and we will do our best to help.

Can I extend my holiday before or after?

Yes absolutely, where possible. If you wish to arrive a few days earlier or later, we would be more than happy to arrange an accommodation extension for you. Please contact us after booking and we can talk you through some options.

When do I have to pay my final balance?

Your final balance is due 6 weeks before the start date of your tour. If you book within 6 weeks of the start date of your tour you will be required to pay the full balance.

How old do I need to be to book a tour?

You must be over 18 years of age to book a tour. We have no upper age limit, however, please read the itinerary carefully and contact us if you have any queries.

Do I have to be fit to book your tours?

Our tours are based around adventure, so do require an element of active participation. It may involve hiking, paddle boarding or other adventurous activities. The Apex Tour Guide at any time has the right to remove anyone from the tour/holiday if they are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.

It is your responsibility to let us know if you have any concerns about this. Ensure you have read the itinerary of your chosen tour properly before booking. Any medical conditions or disabilities which may affect your holiday arrangements in any way must be provided to us, with full details. It may be asked that you get proof of medical fitness for certain tours.

Many of our tours involve water-based activities; we strongly recommend that you can swim for these tours.

Some tours will also take you to high altitudes exceeding 2000 metres. Acclimatisation is taken into consideration when climbing, however, it is difficult to know who is at risk from altitude sickness. If you have a heart or respiratory problem we advise you not to risk extended travel or trekking at high altitudes.

Can I make changes to my booking?

You can yes. There are some conditions so please look at our Booking T & Cs.

I have special dietary requirements; can you cater for this?

Wherever possible we try our best to ensure your requirements are taken care of. Please remember though that this can be more difficult in some countries. You must let us know of special dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Am I covered if something goes wrong?

All our guides are first aid trained and our activity guides hold the correct qualifications and have the experience to run adventurous activities. Our staff are professional and experienced and can work calmly and effectively under pressure.

You will be 100% financially protected for the tour also though Protected Trust Services, should the trip fail to go ahead.

You do however need your own travel insurance. Apex Expeditions does not provide this for you. It is your responsibility to ensure it meets the requirements of your chosen tour.

Are all meals and drinks included?

Each tour varies whether you receive full meals or just some. The meals are stated clearly on each tour itinerary.

There will always be water available on the tours. Other drinks are not included though. Please ensure you budget for this in your spending.

What is the accommodation like that we stay in?

Every tour is different. The accommodation will be different for each tour. We choose the accommodation that we feel suits the tour and its guests. We rate the accommodation on each tour page using a star rating – 1star, 2 stars or 3 stars. As an example camping, maybe 1 star and a hotel could be 3 stars. Tour accommodation can vary from hostels with shared bunked rooms to luxury 5* hotels, depending on the tour.

Is there a tour guide with us throughout the trip?

Our tours are always accompanied by a tour guide from Apex Expeditions. If we are using 3rd party companies to run specific tours and adventurous activities, we will still provide a guide from Apex on your tour. Some tours consist of free time where you can explore by yourself, the tour guide will not be with you at these times but will be contactable.

Can my holiday be affected by the weather?

Some of our tours can be severely affected by the weather. For example our paddleboarding tours and holidays. Don’t worry though! If your tour is going to be affected by the weather we will know between 1-2 weeks before your holiday start dates and will contact you to let you know.

What happens to my tour?

Apex Expeditions will provide a Plan B tour which will include as much of your original itinerary as possible. Any changes will be sent to you in the new itinerary. This is for the safety of our guests and staff. For Example, we may swap paddleboarding with hiking or we can arrange a private boat tour for a small surcharge.

Alternatively, you can choose an alternative date or a travel credit to the value of your booking, redeemable against any of our other products and holidays.

Pre-Departure FAQs

Where do I meet to start my tour?

This information is in day 1 of the itinerary. This is on our website but will always be sent to you by email.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. It is mandatory that you have sufficient travel insurance for the tour you are going on, no matter the location. Apex Expeditions does not cover you for this. Please see our travel insurance page for more information – here.

Should I bring travel money?

You will need spending money on your holiday however we recommend not bringing lots of cash. Why not try a free to use abroad card such as Monzo. There are others you may also wish to use.

Do I need to book an airport transfer?

If you arrive and depart from the airport stated in your itinerary, we will provide all transfers. You will need to make your own way to the airport from home, however.

Do I need to get vaccinations for my holiday?

You may need vaccinations depending on where you are travelling to. We recommend you contact your doctor and seek professional advice.

Do I require a Visa?

Visas may be required depending on the country you are visiting and the country you reside in. This information can change but is listed in the trip information which is sent to you.

How much luggage can I bring?

This depends on the trip you have chosen. If taking a flight, you must make sure that the luggage complies with the airline’s baggage regulations. Please look at the itinerary closely and pack accordingly. We recommend using a bag with wheels as there may be an element of walking with your luggage. If your tour involves hiking, then please check the equipment list as you may need an expedition pack or similar. More information regarding luggage can be found on your kit list which will be sent to you after booking.

Do I need to train for my tour?

This all depends on the individual and the style of tour. We recommend that you prepare yourself for your chosen tour whether it is hiking or paddleboarding etc. The tour itinerary will state if there are easy or hard days and will often include the length of time on an activity.
